SUSTAINABILITY

THE ECOMASTERY PROJECT

Understanding the importance of sustainability in the advancement of the tourism industry, Capella Cruise have taken steps to implement the ECOMASTERY Project, which aims to preserve the pristine environment of the bay and raise awareness regarding environmental concerns such as plastic pollution, climate change, and the conservation of natural resources.
A series of activities of the ECOMASTERY project has been carried out continuously to develop sustainable tourism.

OUR APPROACH

REDUCE PLASTIC USAGE

“Drink me” Water Refill Station & Eco-friendly Water Bottle

The “Drink Me” Water Refill Station and Eco-friendly Water Bottle are our very first steps in this meaningful journey. To reduce plastic waste’s impact on the environment,  we are proud to introduce our “Drink Me” Water Refill stations.
Capella Cruise has installed “Drink Me” Water Stations on every deck and in the cruise center, and replaced plastic water bottles in each passenger’s cabin with empty, eco-friendly bottles. Guests can now enjoy free, fresh water refills for their reusable bottles while also helping to reduce the impact of plastic waste on the beautiful Ha Long and Lan Ha bays.
As a souvenir, Capella’s eco-friendly bottles are available for purchase on board, encouraging guests to give hands to support our GREEN mission by using them.

Eco-friendly material implementation

Leading the charge in sustainable tourism in Lan Ha bay,  Capella Cruise has been performing activities to minimize plastic waste by replacing single-use plastic with eco-friendly materials, avoiding products with excessive or unnecessary plastic packaging and plastics that cannot be recycled.
To achieve this, Capella Cruise has implemented various initiatives such as using paper straws and bags instead of plastic ones. We have also opted for reusable containers for food storing and laundry fabric bags  that can be reused multiple times. We refrain from using plastic for media materials on our cruise and instead use mica glass as a replacement for reuse when changing specific messages.
By prioritizing sustainable tourism, Capella Cruise is not only preserving the natural beauty of Halong Bay, but also contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for all.

OUR APPROACH

SAVE THE OCEAN

Clean up the bay

Capella Cruise recognizes the importance of protecting the environment and preventing pollution in Lan Ha Bay. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we have implemented a monthly bay cleaning program that involves our personnel and other industry players operating in the bay.
Our goal is to preserve the pristine environment of the bay and contribute to the overall sustainability of the region. By collaborating with other companies and organizations in the tourism industry, we can achieve tremendous success in protecting the environment. Our efforts will set a positive example for other tourism businesses and encourage them to join us in building a sustainable future for this beloved tourist destination.

Waste management procedure

Capella Cruise commits to protecting the environment of Halong Bay by refusing to discharge waste directly into the bay. We strictly implement waste classification after each journey to ensure environment-friendly waste treatment.
The waste is classified into three categories: liquid waste, solid waste, and oil & fuel waste, and each is processed according to government regulations and international standards. This responsible approach to waste management ensures that the delicate ecosystem of Halong Bay is preserved for future generations to enjoy. Lyra Cruises’s commitment to sustainable tourism sets a high standard for other tourism operators to follow, and serves as a shining example of how responsible travel can contribute to a more sustainable future.

Capella Cruise’s Green Sail

To preserve the natural beauty of the bay and ensure a sustainable environment for all, Capella Cruise has introduced a daily activity called “Green Sail” to actively engage our guests in environmental conservation. As you embark on a kayaking adventure through the serene waters of the bay, you may come across unsightly debris floating on the surface. We kindly invite you to join forces with our dedicated crew members and make a impact by participating in our cleanup efforts.
Together, we can create a positive change and foster a deep appreciation for the natural wonders that surround us.

OUR APPROACH

SAVE ENERGY

Eco-friendly Air Conditioning system & Waste heat recovery

Capella cruise has implemented a central air conditioning system throughout the vessel that is both eco-friendly and energy-efficient. This system utilizes sea water as a cooling agent and incorporates inverter technology, resulting in energy savings of up to 20%. Furthermore, the fresh air supply system directly draws in fresh air from the bay and distributes it to all enclosed areas, ensuring efficient cooling with fresh air in all cruise areas.
One more of Capella Cruise innovative initiatives for sustainable tourism is recycling waste heat generated during the operation of our power generator. Rather than wasting excess heat into the environment, we recover it to heat up hot water for all cabins on the cruise ship. This helps to minimize our energy consumption and reduce energy charges to the bay environment. Our commitment to sustainable energy management reflects our dedication to responsible tourism and preserving the bay’s natural beauty.

One hour to hug the Earth

There’s a truth we must face, the Earth is suffering from many threats: contaminated water, polluted air, degraded soil, ecological imbalance, the climate in a trance, etc.
Capella Cruise is proud to announce our participation in Earth Hour on March 25, 2023, as part of our unwavering commitment to sustainability and minimizing our environmental impact. To mark this occasion, we have organized a special event named “An hour to hug the earth“, where we encourage our guests to join us in switching off the lights for 60 minutes and celebrating in the dark with music and candles.

By participating in Earth Hour, we aim to increase awareness about saving energy and combating climate change. We hope this event will motivate our guests to adopt sustainable practices and reduce their carbon footprint. Capella Cruise is honored to be part of this global movement and is committed to supporting initiatives that promote a more sustainable future for all.
